In a first-of-its-kind MoU in India, NTPC has signed three MoUs on 6th October 2022 with GE Gas Power for Kawas gas plant, Mitsubishi heavy industries for Auraiya gas plant and Siemens for Faridabad gas plant to reduce carbon emissions from existing gas plants. Shri Pankaj Kumar Gupta, GM (Energy Transition and Policy Research) signed the MoUs in the presence of Shri UK Bhattacharya, Director (Projects) and Shri MK Srivastava, ED (Engineering).

Shri Deepesh Nanda, CEO (GE Gas Power), Shri Tatsuto Nagayasu, CMD (Mitsubishi Power India) and Shri Satya Prakash Chowdary, GM (Siemens) were present during the MoU signing ceremony.

Under this MoU, the gas turbine OEMs will evaluate the possible modifications in the gas turbine unit and auxiliaries required for blending of hydrogen with natural gas. Thereafter, a pilot project for 5% co-firing of hydrogen will be implemented at the gas power plants by respective OEMs in a safe environment based on the feasibility report. NTPC shall provide hydrogen required for the project.
